Yarrawonga has recognised that animal welfare is continuing to drive consumer demands for our products through QA programs like SustainaWool and Responsible Wool Standards (RWS), not only wool but meat as well, with this in mind we have decided to launch a new family of stud sheep, ‘YARRAWONGA PLUS’.
This family is bred for non-mules, high growth, high fat and muscle and reproductive traits. Without loosing sight of the importance of fleece value. Just like Yarrawonga’s main line of stud animals these sheep will be able to perform in high rainfall areas.
This family has been founded on Leahcim ewe base, after the purchase of 200 stud ewes in February 2020. These animals are fully measured animals with ASBV data and are all fully parentage tested. This purchase allows us to utilise high performing animals to quickly advance the genetics of this family.
These ewes were joined to high performing Yarrawonga rams in 2021 and will be AI’d in 2022 to continue to lift genetic gain. Yarrawonga will continue to measure animal welfare traits and the other traits mentioned above, in the main stud animals to continue to give options to our clients and drive genetic gain.
